Obi vs. Tinubu: The tribunal rejects the APC’s claim that Obi is ineligible to run in the 2023 election.

The All Progressives Congress’ lawsuit challenging Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, as being unable to contest in the general election of 2023 was dismissed by the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal on Wednesday afternoon.Read Full Article 

Obi’s participation in the LP had been deemed incompetent by the APC.

Political party membership is an internal matter, according to Justice Abba Mohammed, one of the five-person panel’s members who read the lead judgment.

Due to Obi’s recent joining of the LP, President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima claimed they had locus standi to bring the case before the election rather  than the required 30 days.

The court, however, decided that it was not within Tinubu and Shettima’s purview.

The question of political party membership is a matter for the party’s internal affairs, according to Mohammed.
