Nasra established a new record for the slowest finish in the competition’s history on Tuesday, August 1 during the 100-meter race at the 31st Summer World University Games held in Chengdu, China.
Why Somalia would send an athlete who was so ill-prepared to a big competition has been raised in response to a widely shared video of the race.
Allegations of favouritism and poor management have tainted the selection process and raised questions about it. Some have even asserted that Nasro was chosen to represent the nation in order to apply for a Schengen Visa and a passport.
