According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Omolola Odutola, the public relations officer for the Ogun State Police, the two people who traveled from Lagos to the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Onikoko via the Itori neighborhood of the state were confirmed dead at the Ifo General Hospital after drowning in the river they went to swim in.
According to the PPRO, “A member of the church, one Adebayo Adeosun, reported at the station about 6.30pm that some lads, totaling about seven, who traveled from Lagos on August 27, 2023, for his church’s opening, left the church grounds to swim, and died as a result.
After being rescued from the high waves, the two drowning victims were eventually determined to be Tunde Falade (35) of Kola Alagbado, Lagos, and Femi Akinola (32) of Odo Eran, Itire, Lagos State. A working doctor at the Itori Health Center regrettably verified their demise after they were transported there in an ambulance.
Odutola claimed that the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Olayemi Jacob, dispatched a squad to the location to conduct an investigation after receiving the information. The DPO concluded that there were no indications of violence or wrongdoing.
