On Wednesday, August 2, irate protestors tore down the National Assembly’s gate in the Federal Capital Territory.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, and Festus Osifo of the Trade Union Congress were in charge of the group that demonstrated against the elimination of gasoline subsidies nationwide.
The parliamentary building’s security guards had been persuaded by the organized labor leaders to let the irate workers out by opening the gates, but they refused.
The protesters were furious about this, so they tore down the gates and barricaded themselves inside the assembly site.
At the moment, protesters are gathered on the National Assembly grounds, and stern-faced security Personnel watch on.
Sen. Godswill Akpabio organized a meeting behind closed doors with senators as soon as he discovered that protestors had broken into the parliamentary premises and declared that the red chamber had assembled a three-person team to speak with the protesters at the National Assembly.
The committee was presided over by Borno South Senatorial District Chief Whip Ali Ndume. In order to find a workable solution to the current impasse, the Senate also decided to schedule a meeting with the leadership of the NLC and TUC as soon as feasible.
Ndume later met with the protesters there together with Senators Ireti Kingibe and Tony Nwoye.
