This information was disclosed in a statement made available to journalists in Enugu on Friday by DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesman.
According to Ndukwe, the criminals were killed on Thursday when members of the Igbo-Eze North Police Division and a Special Forces unit from the police attacked their camp in the council’s Imufu neighborhood.
According to Ndukwe, when the operatives engaged the rebellious gangs in gunfire, “three of the hoodlums were neutralised in the ensuing gunfight,” while several more managed to flee with varied degrees of bullet wounds.
Four pump action weapons, a handgun, a locally made revolver gun, 67 live rounds, military camouflage outfits, materials with IPOB insignia, items that appeared to be amulets, and other incriminating items were found, according to the statement.
Ndukwe also claimed that preliminary investigation revealed “the criminal elements were responsible for the shooting and killing of two Neighborhood Watch Group security personnel on July 21, 2023, at about one in the morning in Umuagama in the Enugu-Ezike community of Igbo-Eze North LGA and had made several attempts to enforce the illegal sit-at-home order in some parts.” Of the council.
