Nigerian workers were commended by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) for adhering to the union’s two-day warning strike.
NLC President Joe Ajaero announced last Friday that the union has chosen to begin a two-day warning strike on September 5.
The NLC leader claimed it was a show of protest against the union’s displeasure with the difficulty brought on by the removal of gasoline subsidies by the President Bola Tinubu-led government and what it referred to as the new administration’s awful policies.
Employees in some states, like as Lagos and Sokoto, reportedly refused to follow the NLC’s directive to go on a two-day warning strike, while in others, such as Kano, Ogun, and Abuja, business was suspended.
According to reports, banks and government buildings in Kano were shuttered yesterday, the first day of the strike, and marine workers likewise stopped operations at the Apapa and Tin Can ports yesterday.
The NLC president praised Nigerian workers on X, a platform that was once Twitter, in recognition of their high level of compliance.
According to him, the strike’s first day’s degree of compliance demonstrated that Nigerian workers can follow through on their promises.
Ajaero said the union’s objective was accomplished on the success recorded on the first day of the strike while asking them to keep the passion for the second day of the strike, which is today.
