JUST IN: Judgment from the presidential tribunal will be shown live on television.

According to an announcement made on Monday by the Court of Appeal Headquarters, the presidential tribunal’s decision on the petitions would be televised live.

The court ruled that this was done for Nigerians to see and to promote openness and transparency.

Umar Bangari, the Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal Headquarters, announced this in a statement along with the day the case would be resolved.

He declared that the judgment will take place on September 6, 2023, as had been scheduled.

The statement read: “The Court of Appeal wishes to inform the general public that judgment on the petitions listed below before the Presidential Election Petition Court will be given on Wednesday, September 6, 2023: Mr. Peter Gregory Obi and Anor v. Independent National Electoral Commission and 3 Ors., CA/PEPC/03/2023. CA/PEPC/04/2023 pits the Allied Peoples Movement against the Independent National Electoral Commission and four other parties. CA/PEPC/05/2023 pits Abubakar Atiku and Anor against the INEC and two other parties. These decisions will be broadcast live on television by interested television stations in an effort to encourage transparency and openness.

On judgment day, he added, only authorized individuals, such as attorneys and political party members, will be allowed entry to the courtroom.

“Only accredited individuals will be permitted entry to the Court’s facilities. The courtroom will only be open to accredited individuals, such as attorneys and political party officials. The public is encouraged to watch proceedings on television if they are interested. To guarantee a smooth exercise, we kindly ask for as much of the public’s help as possible,” the message concluded.
