Flood Alert: Expect significant rain and flooding in September in 50 localities across 13 states, according to NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) predicts that between September 13 and September 17, considerable rains that could cause floods will fall in 50 municipalities and 13 states, predominantly in the North. Read Full Article 

The Lagos Territorial Coordinator for NEMA, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, made this announcement in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.

The states and towns were named by Farinloye, including Kano State and potential affected places like Sumaila and Kunchi.

Communities in Kebbi State including Argungu and Katsina State’s Bindawa, Jibia, Kaita, and Katsina would be affected, he continued.

He mentioned Kwara State, Niger, which includes the communities of Kontagora, Mashegu, and New Bussa, and the Kosubosu community.

“Communities like Kaura Namoda and Shinkafi in Zamfara State; Bajoga, Darazo, Kirfi, Azare, Jama ‘are, Itas, and Misau in Bauchi State; Bali, Donga, Lau, Serti, Mutum-Biyu, and Yorro in Taraba; and Briyel, Biu, Dikwa, and Kukawa in Borno State will be affected,” he said.

He stated that Yobe, which includes the communities of Dapchi, Gashua, Geidam, Kanamma, and Potiskum, as well as Adamawa, which includes the communities of Ganye, Mubi, Demsa, Jimeta, Mayo Belwa, Numan, Shelleng, and Song, would both be impacted.

The territorial coordinator listed Gombe State with Nafada and Jigawa as well as the Dutse, Gumel, Gwaram, and Miga communities as the other states and villages that will be affected.

Communities along the two Rivers, up to Bayelsa, have been urged to exercise caution in the coming days as a result of the rise in the water levels of the Rivers Benue and Niger, Farinloye continued.

He praised the National Flood Early Warning Systems (FEWS) Central Hub of the Federal Ministry of Environment in Abuja for their forecasts. (NAN)
