The consolidated medical wage structure (CONMESS) has been revised upward, the medical residency training fund (MRTF) for 2023 has been paid, and the one-for-one replacement circular has been immediately released, according to the wishes of the resident doctors.
Among the others are the payment of unpaid consequential adjustment arrears, hazards, and skipping allowance.
According to NARD President Emeka Orji in an interview with TheCable, resident doctors would resume work at 8 a.m. on Saturday after the strike was called off on Friday evening.
We just put the strike on hold, he remarked. The start of work tomorrow is 8 AM. In two weeks, we’ll evaluate our progress.
Following the strike, the federal government announced that it had authorized the payment of an accoutrement allowance of N25,000 per quarter to medical and dental professionals working in federal public hospitals, clinics, and medical facilities.
The integrated medical salary structure (CONMESS) was also approved by the government for a 25% rise, however NARD rejected the allowance and pay increase, calling it “paltry.”
In response, the association declared that starting on August 9, its members would participate in nonviolent nationwide protests.
However, following a discussion with the association’s leadership, the federal government decided against holding the widely anticipated demonstration.
