Shehu Sani: Military influence must be opposed and resisted in niger

Shehu Sani, a former senator, has fought against military authority, arguing that it needs to be completely rejected and resisted in West Africa.

Sani argued that “military rule can not be the solution” in a statement shared on his verified Twitter account on Thursday.

Following what appeared to be a coup on Wednesday when members of the Presidential Guard seized President Mohamed Bazoum, bendelnews reported that troops had ousted the government of Niger.

The congressman asserted that he recognised the public’s dissatisfaction with the political establishment but stressed that military control could not be a viable solution.
“Military rule must be completely rejected and resisted in West Africa,” he stated. There is no such thing as a flawless democracy, including ours. The answer is not military rule.
Reading comments on social media has startled me because it seems like a lot of young people are now in favour of it. I can relate to people’s dissatisfaction and annoyance with the political establishment. It’s still preferable that we keep trying to improve our democracy until we succeed.
