niger coup: President Bazoum in detention as military takes over power.

Despite Bola Tinubu, the head of the Economic Community of West African States, issuing a warning on Wednesday, the Nigerien army deposed President Mohamed Bazoum on Thursday morning.

Since the soldiers’ initial attempt at a coup in the early hours of Wednesday, President Bazoum has been detained.

According to information obtained by bendelnews, the soldiers made the announcement of the coup in a television broadcast early on Thursday.

The National Council of the State Guard of the Nation resolved to “put an end to the regime you are familiar with,” according to about ten senior commanders, commanded by Colonel Major Amadou Abdramane, during the broadcast.
They claimed that the change came as a result of poor social and economic management by the government, as well as a deteriorating security situation in Niger.
“We reaffirm our support to all commitments undertaken by Niger,” the soldiers added.
The earlier effort had been denounced by ECOWAS through a statement from its chairman, Tinubu, who also issued a warning that the regional organisation and the international community would not tolerate any disruption of the subregion’s constitutional order.
