Kenya: Shakahola cult death toll hits 73

Just after Kenyan police exhumed 47 bodies near the coastal town of Malindi, as they investigate a preacher said to have told followers to starve to death, more bodies have also been exhumed raising the number to 73.

The bodies of children were among the dead as exhumations continues.

The operation has entered day four.

The death toll which has been rising steadily since operations began could rise further following Red Cross revealing that at least 112 people have been reported missing in the area.

The bodies belong to followers of a cult identified as Good News International Church under its leader, Paul Mackenzie.

Mackenzie remains in custody alongside 14 others as probe into the deaths continue.
