Nollywood actor cum politician Desmond Elliot has cleared the air on the construction of a wooden bridge for his constituents.
NEWSUPDATES247 recalls that the lawmaker representing Surulere I Constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly was criticised in 2020 after photos of the bridge surfaced online.
Desmond Elliot was heavily criticised by Nigerians for building a wooden bridge and public toilets for his people.
The lawmaker revealed the idea behind the wooden bridge project in his recent interview with TVC’s popular breakfast show, Your view.
He stated that he had gone to the community to console a mother who had lost her 13-year-old daughter in a canal.
He said while on their way to Shirt to retrieve the girl’s body, the bridge that crossed the canal was very fragile, and the residents begged him to help them rebuild it.
Desmond said he donated N800,000 to the community for the bridge, and they eventually reached out to him and insisted on putting his picture on the bridge to show their gratitude.
According to him, the bridge is no longer in good condition and that he has brought it to the attention of the state government to be repaired.
