Six farmers, including Mallam Yakubu Bugai, the vice-chairman of the Jama’atul Izalatul Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus-Sunnah, were slaughtered by bandits, and more than 40 people were kidnapped in Kaduna State’s Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
Ishaq Kasai, the chairman of the Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressives’ Union, revealed this in a statement on Saturday, July 29, 2023. He stated that the incident took place on Wednesday.
The Islamic leader, according to Kasai, was shot on Wednesday at his farm in the Rema area. His body was afterwards evacuated and transported to Jibril Mai-Gwari General Hospital.
The following day, around 7.30 p.m., the cleric passed away after suffering gunshot wounds to his abdomen and arm.
The Birnin-Gwari Orphans Foundation, an organisation dedicated to caring for thousands of orphans left behind by mostly victims of armed banditry in the region ravaged by insecurity, described Mallam Yakubu Bugai as a strong pillar, an early member and vice chairman before his murder.
Similar to this, the BEPU head revealed that the bandits kidnapped a large number of residents near the Kuyambana forest, which acted as a hiding place for the criminals.
The Vice-Chairman of Jama’atul Izalatul Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus-Sunnah, Birnin-Gwari Branch, Mal. Yakubu Muhammad Bugai, and three other farmers were killed by the murderous bandits who have been wreaking havoc in the region, and their deaths are deeply regretted by the Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressives Union.
On July 26, 2023, the JIBWIS commander was shot at his farm in the Rema area. He was subsequently rescued and transferred to Jibril Mai-Gwari General Hospital. He received bullet wounds to his arm and abdomen. Sadly, he passed on the next morning, Thursday, August 27, 2023, at 7:30am.
“In another sad development, many locals were abducted at their farms in the western part of Birnin-Gwari, close to Sabon-Layi, Kurgi, Yelwa, Tashan-Keji, Shiwaka, Unguwan Danfulani, and many more rural communities sharing boundaries with Kamuku and Kuyambana forests, which are being used as bandit hideouts.
In reality, there are so many intricate and widespread instances that it is difficult to choose which ones to mention. Additionally, the bandits controlled over ten farms in the Sabon-layi Community alone, specifically those with mature corn that had been purposefully removed by the criminals’ cattle.
The bandits actually warned the farmers against wasting their time by trying to farm in the region, warning them that if they disobeyed, they would not be allowed to harvest and might perhaps be killed or kidnapped.
The bandits raided Ung Bawa in Randagi Ward on Friday, July 21, 2023, kidnapped 28 people—including women and children—and killed one. They also shot four other people, who are presently being treated at various medical institutions. However, 13 of the prisoners have succeeded in escaping the den.
“On Tuesday, July 25, 2023, the bandits abducted two people who were returning from Birnin-Gwari town to the Gagumi Community. Rafin Zango was attacked in the vicinity of Eka Farm at the hands of the robbers.
Additionally, on July 26, 2023, they raided Unguwan Roka in the Kakangi Ward and took nine hostages while killing one person. The bandits returned to an adjacent community, Unguwan Danfulani, on Thursday night (27/7/2023), where they killed one individual and abducted seven members of one family.
“Earlier on Thursday, July 27, 2023, the bandits obstructed grain suppliers and traders who were travelling from the Western section to the Birnin-Gwari weekly Market. Six people were abducted over the course of the bandits’ hour-long operation.
