Over 5,000 nonviolent demonstrators who came together at the Unity Fountain in Abuja, adjacent to the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, then marched on to the Federal Ministry of Justice before reaching the National Assembly.
Security guards at the National Assembly first blocked the protesters from entering the building, but after intervention from higher-up police, the gate was flung wide.
According to Bendelnews, Labour has been adamant about staging the protest to highlight their complaints about the hardship that the majority of Nigerians have been experiencing since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the proposal to remove fuel subsidies.
Joe Ajaero, the president of the NLC, and Festus Osifo, his TUC counterpart, were both spotted leading the protest in the nation’s capital from the front.
