Google and Tinubu agree to a strategy to offer one million jobs to Nigerians.

 

In order to help Google Incorporated create one million new digital jobs in Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu has indicated the desire of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

During a courtesy visit by Google Global Vice President Mr. Richard Gingras on Friday, Dele Alake, Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, revealed this.

In his remarks to the visiting Google executive, President Tinubu emphasised that Nigeria has young people who are creative and bright and who are eager and driven to learn, particularly in this era of artificial intelligence. He also noted that the tech giant has the capabilities and tools that the young people require to succeed.

“I’m delighted Google is willing to work with us. You have heeded our appeal for digital innovation and support for our young people. You are assisting our initiatives to advance the digital economy. Regarding your pledge to generate 1 million digital employment in Nigeria, we are prepared to collaborate with you.
“We will provide you with all the assistance necessary for having a successful corporate responsibility. Even though they will be difficult, we have begun our economic changes, the president remarked.
President Tinubu said on Google’s platforms’ support of free speech, freedom of the press, and democracy: “It is in the public interest to continue defending free press and free speech. A free society is something we firmly believe in.
The Google Vice President informed President Tinubu earlier in his speech that he was in Nigeria for the West Africa Journalism Innovation Conference.
He claimed that the ability and ingenuity of young people in Nigeria who are utilising technology and digital platforms to increase access to information and advance democracy had inspired him.
President Tinubu was informed by Mr. Gingras that his organisation has a keen interest in Nigeria and is prepared to assist the Federal Government.
In an era of misinformation and fake news, he claimed, Google will assist safeguard Nigeria. He also stated that his company wanted to keep working with the Nigerian government.
