One of the local governments in the problematic Eastern Senatorial District of Sokoto State is the Goronyo local government.
On September 14, 2023, ASP Ahmed Rufai, a spokesman for the state police command, verified the incident and stated that the gunmen initially kidnapped 18 people before taking livestock and other valuables with them.
According to him, seven of the kidnapped people eventually managed to get away and return to the neighbourhood where many people had fled for protection.
The PPRO gave the assurance that police are pursuing the attackers and working to bring the neighbourhood and environment back to normalcy.
