The 23-year-old winger will take a leave of absence with full salary and no suspension to give himself time to respond to the accusations brought by the three women.
But Antony has decided to postpone his return until further notice so he can respond to the accusations.
Although police in Manchester and Sao Paulo are looking into the allegations against Antony, he has not yet been detained.
The former Ajax star, who has maintained his innocence, gave a sad interview to Brazilian television on Friday night.
On Sunday, he released another statement, saying, “I have agreed with Manchester United to take a period of absence while I address the allegations made against me.
“I want to restate my innocence of the charges against me, and I’ll work closely with the authorities to get to the bottom of it. I’m eager to get back to playing as soon as I can.
Gabriela Cavallin, Antony’s ex-girlfriend, has claimed four times that he assaulted her. In his native Brazil, two more women have come forward to make comparable accusations of violent behaviour, including banker Ingrid Lana and law student Rayssa de Freitas.
The club recognised the accusations against Antony, but United said in a statement earlier this week that it was under mounting pressure to take action.
