At the Ondo checkpoint, a hit-and-run driver crushes a police officer to death.

An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) working for the Ondo State Police Command was killed by a hit-and-run vehicle.
On Sunday, July 23, 2023, the officer was crushed to death at a checkpoint along the Benin-Owo Expressway at Ifon in the state’s Ose Local Government Area.

Eyewitnesses said that when the deceased officer attempted to stop the car, the driver struck him and continued driving without stopping.
The driver was detained by members of the Nigerian Army in Sobe in Edo State, according to Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the state police command’s spokesman, who confirmed the occurrence.

The PPRO added that it was a hit-and-run incident and refuted an earlier story that the cop had been slain by several suspected kidnappers on the road.
While the police attempted to pull over a suspected vehicle, the driver refused to stop. Our police responded to the highway alert, but when they reached a certain location near Ifon, the motorist veered and struck an ASP, killing the officer instantly, according to Odunlami.

The driver was nevertheless chased, and thankfully for us, military personnel detained him near Sobe in Edo State.
The spokeswoman also mentioned that the dead police officer’s body had been placed in the mortuary.
