The Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Ikorodu, formerly Lagos State Polytechnic, has denied a media report that the rector of the institution has been appointed acting Vice-Chancellor by the state government.
The report (not The PUNCH) was credited to a source within the institution.
A statement made available to The PUNCH on Wednesday, said there were extant laws guiding such critical appointments, adding that the law also identified the authorities vested with the powers to appoint and announce such positions.
The statement read, “The attention of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology has been drawn to the publications in the media, on the appointment of an acting Vice Chancellor for the newly established university, credited to a source within the institution.
“The management of the institution wishes to dissociate itself from such publications. For the avoidance of doubt, there are extant laws guiding such critical appointments. The law also identifies the authorities vested with the powers to appoint and announce such principal administrative and academic positions.
“The public is hereby assured that whenever such appointment is made in accordance with the law, it will be formally communicated by the appropriate authorities.”
