Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was charged by the Federal Government with illegal possession of guns in the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Remember that after Emefiele was arrested, Justice Nicholas Oweibo set a N20 million bond for him and ordered his detention at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility until the satisfaction of his bail requirements.
Despite fulfilling the bond requirement, the DSS continued to detain Emefiele for “some investigative reasons”
On Tuesday, August 15, Mohammed Bakodo Abubakar, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) at the Federal Ministry of Justice, made an oral request to the federal high court in Ikoyi to drop the charge of illegal possession of guns.
Defence attorney Joseph Daudu (SAN), who argued against it, charged the federal government of disregarding the initial court decision that released Emefiele on bail.
After the hearings, Abubakar spoke with the media and stated that new charges had been brought before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court. Emefiele is accused of “conferring unlawful advantages” in one of the counts.
