Falana highlighted that the remand order against Bawa had already expired; the cumulative lifespan of a remand order, as stated under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), is 56 days. Bawa has been held longer than allowed by the Act and the Nigerian Constitution, so the DSS needs to be told to free her from unjustified custody as soon as possible.

Despite having a history of disregarding court rulings while in office, Godwin Emefiele and Bawa, the former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor and Director of Public Prosecution at the Federal Ministry of Justice, urged that the Federal Government should make sure that their rights are honored.

“All Nigerian public servants who regularly act as if there is no tomorrow should learn a lesson from the fate of the two suspects.
